Attachment is the beginning of pain.
The fear of rejection has caused the awful sting of regret to inflect greater harm than the rejection would have caused.

Life must be lived from within, we are socialized to believe that the greatest force in the universe is altruistic sacrifice.  That only leaves us a hollow empty shell being blown around by the whim of those around us who are only serving themselves.
 So are we to be selfish like those takers? No! We are to be a full people with the understanding that happiness and satisfaction can only be given when we have ample stores of those beautiful items. 

We often have the rug pulled from under us by people we are suppose to be able to trust. Those that love us are the ones that truly can hurt us, so we close up and seal off that spring of joy and happiness that should be flowing freely to give life to the world around us.   The divine within is smothered and is chocked off by our desire to protect ourselves.

Why is it so joyful to watch children play?  They haven't sealed off the joy and pure happiness.  They live life without an attachment to the world.  Those people who we call names and question their sanity are only living life on their own terms, the terms we wish we had the inner power with which to live by our own terms.

It is better to have tried and failed, picked yourself up and tried again, than to just lay down and die from the thousand cuts of fearing rejection.
